Declared as a global pandemic by World Health Organization, COVID-19 has affected a lot of people in the last few months. More than 7.5 million cases have been recorded and at least 4 lakh+ people have died. In such a condition, while it is important to maintain hygiene to fight against coronavirus, strengthening immune system has also become very important. According to some recent studies, it has been found that people with weak immune system are at a higher risk of getting an infection over the others. Also, people with smoking or vaping habits are also very prone to getting a COVID-19 infection. Therefore, WHO & other health agencies have asked people to strengthen their immune system and there are certain ways to do so.

Below is a list of measures that one can undertake in order to boost immunity and to fight coronavirus:

  • Take Enough Sleep

Sleeping is the best healing method. Sleep time vary a lot among people of different ages, however, a sleep of at least 7-8 hours is considered as the best as it releases body stress and build immunity. If you are not sleeping enough, you will not only start feeling tired but lesser sleep will also impair your brain activity and directly impact on your immunity. Also, if you are already taking some kind of medicines and not sleep then it can adversely affect you immune system.

  • Take Fluids

Keeping yourself hydrated is one of the very important things to stay healthy. Doctors recommend drinking up to 8-10 glasses of water every day because hydration helps flushing out the toxins from the body and indirectly helps improve immunity. Not only water but you should also include other fluids in your diet such as juices made of lemon, orange or other citrus fruits. You can also take coconut water and milk.

  • Eat Right

Healthy eating is very important because this is something that determines your overall immunity. Eating habits vary a lot from person to person and from country to country but there are certain common foods which everybody can take in order to increase immunity.

The importance of following an exercise routine is same as following a good diet. If you have a good stamina, you should at least do 30-40 minutes daily exercise. Even a light exercise of 15-20 could be enough to help in releasing the toxins from your body and help increase immunity by improving metabolism.

  • Avoid Smoking & Alcohol

It is a known fact that smoking or vaping weakens your lung capacity and destroy cells of your respiratory tracts leading to a weakened body system against respiratory illnesses.

In order to keep your cells ready to fight against coronavirus, you should avoid smoking or vaping.

Alcohol is also bad for your health because heavy consumption can lead to ARDS (Acute Respiratory distress syndrome) which is one of the conditions caused by Covid 19 infection.
If you are dependent on any of these, you should practice moderation because sudden withdrawal can also be risky.
